I am seeing all these USB wireless adapters and many of them are very cheap. I'm more familiar with the internal PCI adapters for wireless but they are much more expensive. My question is do these USB adapters do the same thing or am I missing something. I'm buying a Linksys WRT54GL wireless router and need an adapter for my computer.

in my opinion, this is the best value usb adapter available- http://homestore.cisco.com/en-us/Ad...VproductId97657085VVcatId551965VVviewprod.htm

find them online like amazon or ebay for $15 or less. office depot just had a sale on them for $10 in store too... dont ask questions either, just trust me you will LOVE this adapter.

there are some reasons to get internal cards... speeds can be better and you dont have to use up an external usb port, but for the most part you can buy usb adapters like the one above and still get very similar performance- with much easier setup.

the only other thing you might want is an adapter that does 5ghz, but for the router you have that wont matter at all.

sorry jack, but you read the subject title and replied with the "best" advice, that turns out to be completely irrelevant and even quite wrong. even if op was looking for an internal card, that would be a bland to crappy choice.

Otherwise get an Inexpensive Wireless Router that can be configured to do Client Bridge.

this however is a good idea. if the situation allows it (ac power nearby, space available and ethernet port not in use) then i think this is actually ideal. once set up to connect to your wireless network, you can plug that thing into any device with an ethernet port and get on your network wireless. ultimate convenience.
