This is a kind of shot in the dark as i dont know whether anyone is into of roading on these forums but i want to fit a winch to a series 3 Land Rover and was wondering whether an electric winch or a hydraulic one would be better. Thanks guys.

its an age old debate

Electric

Pros - doesnt require the engine to be running, faster line speed

Cons - weigh more, usually have less pulling power, overheats faster

Hydraulic

Pros - light weight, high pulling power and less chance for overheating the winch

Cons - requires the engine to be one and will probably require a better power steering pump, slow

If i were in the market, i'd get an electric. Chances are i'm gonna need it in a sticky situation, when the engine shouldnt be running(mud, flipped over, water)
