Here in Houston we have this place called James Coney Island. Their weiners are the best I have ever tasted, bar none. I wish like heck I could find a way to buy them in bulk.

As far as store bought ones go, Ballpark all beef are probably the best I have tried.

What are the best tasting weiners you have tried? Both at a restaurant and in a store for cooking at home?

Thanks!

The ones that are sold on street side in those small BBQ trailers are always the best, I don't know what it is about those but they always taste the best.

Ehh, any chicago dog is more or less good ... Portillos & Superdawg for big chains, Wiener Take All for little hole in the wall places.

I'm in Houston and haven't ever been to Coney, probably never will. The only time I voluntarily eat a hot dog is if they are bratwurst or similar. My favorite place ever is Wurstkuche in Los Angeles - their bratwurst and pomme frites are to die for.

The only other acceptable hot dog is a dirty bacon wrapped hot dog purchased after a sporting event or concert from an old mexican woman with a little cart who runs away when the cops come around.

As long as it's accompanied by plenty of ketchup, any wiener can be good!

How much would you consider bulk wieners to be?

Please give your answer in terms of the engine component closest in size to what to you consider bulk.

My favorite dog depends on how I'll be cooking them

(1) Boiled/steamed: Nathan's -OR- Sabrett

(2) Grilled: Hebrew National (Jumbo) -OR- Hummel

(3) Fried: Kayem

EDIT: Best dog I've had out was from a stand on Water St in lower Manhattan I used to hit regularly when I was a courier years ago. Actual grilling was legal below Canal st (I believe?) back then and they served nicely charred Hebrew National's.

Mouth is watering thinking about it as I type this in fact! :D

In Europe, especially in smaller towns in countries like Austria, you can get the best tasting wieners in the world. They're always freshly made by local farms with no preservatives or added ingredients. Ironically they're usually called "Frankfurters", and they're long and thin. Perfect biting size.

They come with delicious sharp and sweet mustard. So good.

We typically only buy Nathan's bun length because my wife is picky about hot dogs. (no jokes please...she's picky about a lot of brands)

We used to get Hebrew National...they always got good ratings, but I'm not a huge fan. I also like Ballpark or what's beef and on sale, but she thinks Nathans are the only way to go.
