Pepper spray is a bad joke. You're up against a real predator he will take that can and shove it up your ass and probably kill you. Tasers are decent but I'd only trust in hot high velocity lead.

If you're determined enough, you can fight through spray. It does suck to get hit with it, though..definitely better than nothing.

What's wrong with someone wanting pepper spray? Sheesh. I know it isn't going to kill anyone, or stop the occasional PCP or Meth monster, but it will definitely buy you a few seconds to get a head start, or get a few licks in.

Meh. I'll admit I've never had the pleasure of being sprayed, but I thought it was pretty serious stuff. Never mind the pain, can you even see after a shot to the face? I'd think it would be pretty easy to escape. No matter how determined a predator is, they won't be able to do much if they can't even see you.

And what are you basing this on? I was pretty sure some types of sprays at least are strong enough to cause temporary blindness. And even if they don't do that, I'd think you'd be blinking and clenching your eyes a lot just as a reaction to the pain.

The stuff that -you- are going to be able to buy isnt going to be nearly the same as the stuff I got sprayed with in the military, or what police carry for the most part.

Even when I took my shot right in the face, I was still able to run an obstacle course afterward. I wasn't that incapacitated, but it did make for a miserable couple of days.

Did you have your eyes closed when you took the shot? And how long after the shot before you started to flush it out with water? Police/military demonstrations are probably a bit different than a real world scenario. It's just supposed to give you an idea of what pepper spray feels like.

I didn't realize there were differences in strength, though. Is the military grade stuff quite a bit stronger than what's available to the public?

For us we took a shot right in the face, from probably a 18 inches or so away. I had my eyes closed, but that does not matter. We then ran an obstacle course, which took a few minutes. We started getting the water treatment I would say about 10 minutes after getting sprayed, and that also made it worse - it doesn't just wash off like you got squirted with apple juice.

It definitely sucked, but I would not say I was totally incapacitated. Like Zebo, I would much rather put my faith in a 180g gold dot.

Fair enough. I still can't imagine how you could even open your eyes after a shot with OC spray, but I guess you speak from more experience than me, so I'll take your word on it. :p

Depending on where you are, it might be illegal, but get the ones with a combination of OC, CN and CS.

Canisters that have a more substantial case is useful for people who will be carrying it in something like a purse. You don't want the can to be punctured by something else in there accidentally.

Sabre red is a good one with a combination of substances and the UV dye. Freeze +p is another popular one along with Fox. I personally use Vexor for the people I care about, but its much harder to get and more expensive.

EDIT: I also heard some good things about Shotgun Stream when compared to Vexor. Need to try some of that.

Also, yes, I'd love to use my 147gr Winchester Ranger, but alas, when not possible or with those who aren't as "gun crazy" as I, I would like them to have something.

So not only is everyone on ATOT a millionaire, super-model dating, supercar driving pimp, but now they can take pepper spray to the face and still assemble a rubiks cube in 5 seconds while juggling chain saws? Seriously people, unless you have been sprayed by this stuff then kindly STFU, it is not as harmless as you make it out to be.
