Thanks, but S&W knives suck imo. I had a SWAT Millenium Special that literally fell apart on me. I have that same knife now (friend got it as a gift for me) and I'd rather give it up for something better.

I've had this knife (except that mine is all black) for five years and a half years now. Other than the occasional sharpening I have had no issues.

Damnit, blocked at work :( I literally used mine daily back at my old retail job - it literally fell apart at the screws, got dull quickly, (440) didn't open right. It wasn't that expensive (probably only paid $45 for it) but it should at least hold up to the daily stresses of use.

Which brand are you looking into? I've had a Benchmade 770S BC1 that has stood up pretty darn well. It's not very big, but since I am surrounded by sheeple at work, I cant exactly bring in my MT LCC D/A ;). It's still large enough for most jobs, and it's light, too.

Hey Mook - anything but S&W and to an extent, Kershaw, unless it's just highly recommended. My last Kershaw - don't ask why but the serrated edges got bent when I was messing with it one day cutting a desk, and the tip snapped off as well. I don't plan on abusing it a lot, but it'd be comforting to know I could put a knife through it's paces without it breaking on me. Brand wise - Benchmade, Gerber, Buck, maybe Spyderco but that might be a lil out of my range on pricing, not sure yet though. Any recommendations? (Even brands I didn't mention)

Looking for a one handed open, legal to carry.

Benchmades are great knives, I have a mini-griptilian I use for work, and even that "scares" some people. Geez, fortunitly HR doesn't care about knives if you are in IT...I need it to open things :D

Probably under $100, preferably under $70.

Marble Arms (Marble's Outdoors now) is a local place that sells nice knives... not sure if they have a website though.

I forgot to ask: what size range? If you plan to carry it at work you shouldnt underestimate the sheeple factor.

I work in a small office of about <10 people. Size is not a factor :) I think the legal limit in TX is 4".

You could get a Microtech mini-Socom Elite. It's at the higher end of your price range, however it is made out of fairly high end materials. 6061 handle, 154CM blade, and it's a framelock. The downside is that MT has had some QC issues. But I can point you to a dealer who will inspect your knife prior to shipping, and he catches just about everything that you can think of. The only remaining issue is that last time I looked, they were using proprietary screws for everything, including the clip. But... when MT does it right, they make the best factory knives, IMO. I bought one for a friend, he loves the thing.

The BM 770 is pretty nice. I got mine for $85, but it was on sale. If you're willing to look around some, you might be able to find it for that price. It's got carbon fiber for the handle, 154CM blade steel, and if you get the BC1 version, Boron-carbide coating. BC is the best coating, IMO. Almost impossible to scratch (HRC hardness of ~90, whereas most high end blade steels are around HRC 60) unless you scratch it with your sharpening stones. Prevents rust, darkens the blade, and looks nice. Plus the CF is nice.

I'll post more later, I've got to get back to patching Unix servers now.

I get the majority of my stuff from www.knifecenter.com

S&W knives are cheap POS. Hibbens are flashy paperweights. Get a Benchmade, Cold Steel, Spyderco, or SOG.

If you want a great flip knife that'll last a long time check out Beretta. Their knives have been the best for me.
