I'm not totally sure they will meet your needs, but site5.com is located in San Ramon which is probably not very far from where you are. I just signed up with them recently after reading good feedback in http://www.webhostingtalk.com/.

The problem you will probably have with them and many webhosts is that you can't run a game server or other random daemon on the host. That's just too many variables with a shared hosting provider usually. You probably can find some game hosting specific providers which will let you host games.

If nothing else, site5's customer support has been quick to respond to my few issues. It is not hard to host your own website but what's hard is having a fast enough connection and enough support (hardware, software, your time) to keep it running smoothly and securely.

I'd try and find a game specific provider but if you have unusual needs and don't mind spending some money, colocate your own server somewhere and then you can host/do whatever you want as long as it's legal.

3mbps upstream ANYWHERE is going to cost you several times more than renting a dedicated server.

Alright alright, forget about game server / fast upstream.

Just what are the top providors for business-class shared webshosting?

I've used webhost4life.com and they are sorta slow, an 'ok' experience but I want to step it up a little bit.

Just list the top sites for shared webhosting please

Business class shared hosting? Make sure to look for one with Raid 1 setups and lots of backups!

With Raid 1, even if a hard drive fails, you won't notice! The website will keep running at the same speed off of another drive.

And remember, "you get what you pay for"

You're only going to find budget class web hosts in the $5-$10 range.

If you want something fast, reliable with great support and uptime then bump it to $20-$30/mo.

Check WHT, it's the AT of web hosting.
