since standard webhosting has been covered in so many threads, does anyone have any recommendations for cheap hosting with java servlet support?

Since your budget is no more than $10 a month I would highly recommend AddAction.net, if you sign up make sure to choose The Plan and use their coupon code found here which gives you the first 6 months for only $9.95 then it's only $6.95/mo thereafter.
