HOnestly, i dont' know.

For sure, i dont' want to go with:

PHPWEBHOSTING.com
PowWeb.com

These two companies are shady from what i hear. Any thoughts on the best web hosting company?

Cornerhost

Medium-sized company, but the guy who started it does excellent, personal service and his prices are well below what I've found elsewhere for the same features. Plus their mailing list is top-notch; some of the users who frequent it know a lot about web design and configuration issues.

It all depends on your defination of good. If cheap is good, then maybe. If you need an awesome datacenter with plenty of bandwidth from different providers for maximum uptime then pair is the choice.

OLM - been using them for several months and have no complaints. very reasonable with many options.

EDIT: when i signed up, MySQL was included in that $10 plan. I prepaid a year, so I wonder if they will yank that when I renew.

Must. Find. Catch. That is an awesome deal! Am I missing something? Do they make your site have 50 popups? that support sounds really good too.

I would search the WebHostingTalk.com forums for addaction, I found 56 threads mentioning that webhosting company.

Well, considering i go to UCSB and have to fork over $14,000 a year for tuition + room and board, I'm looking for an economical web host.

Something around $7.00 ~ 15.00???

20gig of bandwith or more is great. Also, at least 400mb of disk space and all the other goody goods are welcomed.

PHPWEBHOSTING --> Sux because it is only unmetered until 5gigabytes, what a great catch eh?

PowWeb.com --> My alternative choice, except they have a 2gig data transfer limit. So if you go over that, you're in deep doo doo. Couple of nice things are: 30gig transfer limit/month, 500mb of hd space, and $7.77/month. Relatively a good price. But i've heard some very mixed reviews on this company.

Dixiesys --> Heard awesome things about this company, but pricing is a bit too steep for me and not enough disk space.

HOST ROCKET --> Holy crap! Actually, i jsut found this webhost thanks to a user that posted on this forum earlier and their prices and options aren't that bad at all! I like that fact that it is 37gig of bandwith and 750mb of HD space. But what is the catch here?
any others?

I would say readyhosting.com is one of the best hosts as far as bang-for-the-buck goes. But I've had a couple of minor issues with them over the past 2 years.

JHoly Crap!

http://addaction.net is pretty awesome. I like the idea that you get 6 months free and no obligation to stay and generally, the whole package is not bad.

but i do love http://www.hostrocket.com 750mb 37gigabytes trasnfer?! Crazy! except, they have a lot of additional 1-time setup fees which kind of put a damper on things. you have to pay for SSL i believe, a one time setup fee and a lot of other fees. but all in all, not bad.

I narrowed it down to these two i think. Thanks guys. Any other feed back is highly appreciated.

I've been on Host Rocket for quite some time, and I have had 0 Problems. I was on www.gisol.com and had issues with their support staff. . . .nobody hardly spoke english. Host Rocket is at least on the east coast. They have great customer support, and they actually answer your phone calls. They are quite good. Their control panel is really really good to.

Check out HostAZ for more info on comparisons.
