In my experience, weather programs are worse than viruses.
Years ago, I had weatherbug on my desktop and it seemed like it was doing a lot of stuff in the back ground because it just about stalled out my PC and caused crashes.
Fast forward to weather apps and cell phones:
Has nothing changed?
I had the Weather Channel widget on my phone, and I could tell it was hogging all the phone's resources.

Are all widgets going to hog system resources?
Is there anything sleek and efficient out there?

I use Weather & Toggle Widget. Look just like HTC's flip clock but infinitely customizable with skins. I have a really old Android phone, Samsung Moment and it runs fine. I set it to update the weather every two hours.

I use the standard news/weather widget that comes with Android. Doesn't really slow anything down.

Minimalistic Text if you like a subtle look

Beautiful Widgets if you want something fancy

I like the Sense weather/clock widget the best. I like the overlay unlock effects.

Does anything else have that?

another vote for beautiful widgets, many skins are available. here's what mine looks like right now, using the clock skin lttrsclock and the weather skin letters

Minimalistic Text FTW, beautifulwidgets contains the ugliest widgets I've ever seen. How ironic's that?

Yeah, most of the skins are pretty terrible. The only ones I like are the LTTRS one posted and the similar black cashmere
