This seems like it was effective.

So, shield, spear, helmet, and some highly trained Spartan warriors.

At the exchange rate of today's currency versus 480 BC, I can have it all for $50 for sure.

This route seems like a pain in the ass

Are you kidding? I freaking love that show!

Having spent some time swinging axes though I'm not sure how long I'd last.

In which case you should know the answer would be to put something inbetween yourself + the zombies until your arms have enough strength to stab more zombies.

Like some sort of riot shield? And, rather than an unwieldy axe, stab with a spear? I've suggested that numerous times in TWD thread, as it would be ideal for clearing buildings. With your back in a corner, you're near invincible from zombie attacks and in long hallways, you have a distinct reach advantage.

Now, you'd still want some sort of firearm, for that encounter with people like me. I would shoot first, take supplies later, ain't nobody got time for questions.

I chose to put this inbetween myself and the zombies.

the problem with the shield I think is that you'd need to exert force to keep the zombies off of you long enough to recharge. with 5 or 6 zombies I'd expect the weight to eventually wear you down.

I think the perfect zombie defense device would be a shark cage on wheels. Granted that won't really work in close quarters OR against humans with guns, but if you're clearing say a prison yard full of zombies, it might work?

And maybe some chain mail.

Nice ninja edit BTW. ;)

One problem with the Katana is that it mandates you maintain physical fitness and the ability to hack heads off. If you get injured or sick, you are fucked. With a gun, you at least have the option of casually killing zombies.

HOnestly, in the walking dead, all you would need is a few of these

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgrEG0Yp6ws

built them in a circle on a hill and lower them to ground level. In the center, have a pedestal with live bait. Zombies come in, fall in, get chewed up, and spewed out a exhaust tube into a river.

Or, put one of them in front of a narrow corridor/thin crevice. As the zombies come towards, they fall in and get chewed up.

While, it is true that it will take some force, simply planting your foot and leaning into it should provide enough resistance to "charge up your arm".

And, some lightweight chainmail would be near perfect, although, I think some BDU / ACU clothing would be better suited. A person, even a zombie, wouldn't be able to bite through the heavy cloth. It would hurt like a som'bitch, but it wouldn't be a bite. Chainmail, while breathable, would be fairly heavy and hard to come by. Plus, it doesn't have the 250 pockets my BDUs have.

I've had a dog bite me in a bite-suit and it fucking hurts, and you have almost no freedom of movement. To have a cloth suit that will not only prevent teeth from coming through (think jagged dead people teeth), and prevent injury/pain...it wouldn't work welll IMO.

Better then nothing? Hell yeah! But not impenetrable/foolproof. A leather jerkin or some other form of cloth armor would still be a good defense however.

Zombies have resistance to slashing attacks and are immune to critical hits so you want a blunt weapon with high base damage. They don't have much hit points so any added damage enchantment will greatly increase your chances to destroy a zombie in a single hit.

I like the mindset of someone who decides they need some form of defense close at hand for an extremely unlikely scenario, but still wants to be frugal. If you're legitimately concerned about an apocalypse happening, spend more than $50 preparing, because someone who spent $50,000 will fucking kill you.

Aye. Holy damage works great against all forms of the undead. As long as there is some sort of priest around to bless the weaponry, I think I would have great success with nearly any type of enchanted object.

one possible explanation: Imagine I'm playing Doomsday Preppers the game. I got 10k to start my preparations with. The most I can allocate to a hand to hand zombie apocalypse weapon would be $50, because I need the rest of the funds to buy shit like food, ranged weapons, water systems, etc.

It's like playing Oregon Trail...except with zombies.

If I roll 40+ on 3d20 I bet I can crit a zombie to death with my barehands. Oh wait, we said they were immune to crit. FUCK.

well, now I know I'm fucked. I don't think I ever made it past the Missouri river without running out of bullets and dying of dysentery.

I have hundreds of hours swinging this, or one very like it. I'm very comfortable with it, and can fuck stuff up fast...
