Say you want to stash something in your war chest for the ZA, budget ~$50. We all know guns have limited usefulness vs zombies, so what type of bladed or blunt weapon would you get to supplement your arsenal?

ex) Something like this is is only $30 shipped

I need two of those and I'm all set. (Not the compass)

Depends on the type of zombie.

I can't really say that I'd have any good weapon for a fast zombie. Guns and traps are pretty much the only way to go there. (Which is not $50) Fast zombies require the most defensive positions.

Slow zombies? Probably go with a spear, crossbow, compound bow, or the long hammer like above. Downsides of bows is that I have to store a lot of arrows/bolts and retrieve them. Upside is that I have a very long range compared to any other hand weapons and it is pretty quiet. That said, ain't gonna find a good crossbow or compound bow for $50... but you probably ain't going to get a quality spear either. Hammer, maybe.

This seems like it was effective.

So, shield, spear, helmet, and some highly trained Spartan warriors.

At the exchange rate of today's currency versus 480 BC, I can have it all for $50 for sure.

If you really cared about the zombie apocalypse, it seems odd to limit yourself to only $50 worth of stuff for defense.

Give me a crowbar and a slingshot and I should be a-okay.

$50 wouldn't buy me an Chinese AK in today's market. =(

And that would be all I need (one assault rifle and a magazine of bullets), because I wouldn't be shooting the zombies, I'd be shooting the people with more stuff than me and taking it.

If you're focusing on the zombies, have fun being lambs to the slaughter. I'm sure that katana you got from you local anime convention makes you feel manly, but my AK makes all your food are belong to us.

Can I spend the $50 on a nice big bayonet and then strap it to my already owned rifle with a $1.50 bag of zipties?

When the dead rise, can I be on your team?

A full tank of gas for your car and a paper map.

I'd head either to West Point since it is 10 minutes from me and try and get safe harbor there (hoping they would be among the first to receive some reinforcements and some good weapons) or "appropriate" a boat and head down the Hudson and out to sea, find a safe island if I can.

Wouldn't it be better to paddle up river into the more remote country side?

You go down river and along the coast you will be floating by the most densely populated coastline of the US all the way down

Why deal with the zombies or other people at all? Just use a fully stocked for the next 30 years bomb shelter.

1) you'll be dead as soon as you run out of bullets.
2) can you really get one of those for $50, legality aside?

1) How many zombies do you suppose you could take out before you get winded and too tired to swing some of the weapons listed here?
2) You could probably make one for $50 in materials.

Enough to run, I'd hope :p

If there were that many I wouldn't be worried about the noise a .357 Magnum with hollow points would make.

How well would a suppressor actually work in a zombie apocalypse situation? It would rely on how well zombies could recognize gunfire and the direction it is coming from. Would a suppressor even be required?

My post apocalypse gun would be the Marlin 1895 STP.

I don't care if its practical, it would be cool. Add a aluminum baseball bat and a something like the Becker BK7, and an Alice Pack ala DayZ would complete the look. haha..total zombie killer poser, but I'd have a day or two of feeling cool before I die a horrible death.

I have the Winchester model 94 chambered in .44 Magnum. Goes well with my S&W model 629.
