I need a cheap notebook for university this september (somewhere around the $500 cd. price range, like a compaq armada m300), but I can't buy anything online. Any stores, large or otherwise, either don't have stuff that old or ridiculously overprice it. I'm clueless as how to find a good deal, as I've never done this before :( Where do you guys look to buy stuff like notebooks and accessories when you don't have access to eBay, or online stores?

Classifieds are a good idea, though people often over-price based on what they paid not current prices. If you look up comparable prices online you might talk them down once they realize their error - they don't know you can't buy.

Usenet used to have decent .forsale. groups for most major cities, though with ebay they're probably dead now.

FS/FT forum here try a "WTB - Ontario Only!" post.

You could still buy through eBay if you find a seller in your area, just email the seller before bidding.

If you know someone with a CC you could pay them $20 to do the buying for you.
