Bluetooth would work perfectly if the range wasn't so horrible. The connection gets spotty after about 6-10ft.

I have a laptop connected to the speakers, so I can interface anything through that laptop. Perhaps this can be done through the home network somehow? Both the tablet and the laptop would be connected through wifi.

There is no rational reason to spend dozens or even hundreds of dollars and hours (or even just minutes) fiddling with various hardware and software trying to save the 6 or so seconds it takes to plug in a cord. Therefore, unless this is your personal hobby to fiddle with wireless, the absuloute best and only way to stream wirelessly is to simply plug in the cord and pretend it is not there.

Disagree. Spending money to alleviate annoyances is well worth it.

Range can depend on the devices. I had a cheapy $5 Bluetooth speaker that's exactly what you mentioned... 6-10ft, but then I tried two different speakers one, Dell and JBL that can span the entire 1st floor of the house.

Lol that is so wrong. Few electronics "just work" like Sonoses do. They are expensive, and I don't have any, but jeez if you really care about this and you are willing to spend hundreds you can do things with a Sonos that you simply can't do without one (unless you are willing to wire together every room in your house).

If the Bluetooth is from the tablet to the laptop perhaps their antennae are inadequate and using a seperate dongle with an external one on the laptop could improve the range. Convenience aside, maintaining quality requires AptX capability. So, if not present on the tablet then definitely go with Wi-Fi.

I can explain what I do it might work for you.
In the spring and summer months my wife and I love hanging out on the patio in the backyard. We like to have music going so what I did was dl ES File Explorer for my Nook and she bought one of those cheap $10 bluetooth cans.

I can use the Nook to browse the home network and navigate to our music folder which is on my computer upstairs. I use ES File explorers built in media player to stream the music from upstairs to the patio and then the Nook transmits the music to the little bluetooth speaker.

Now we get to enjoy our entire library of music while sitting on the patio and hanging out with friends or just having a quiet night with just the two of us.
