Best way to watch Netflix out of State?

Have a friend that got sent to Japan for 3-4 Months. He wants to watch Netflix on his Laptop.

What's the best solution for this?

Needs some type of VPN or Proxy solution or DNS to use a US IP so the site thinks he's in the US. As Japan doesn't have Netflix yet.

Any free way to do this or does he have to use a paid service? He's not very tech savvy either.

Hello i saw this topic and i registered myself for telling this to you:

Do not use 'Unblock-US' , it's slowly and it give you sometime's a time out error.

Most Proxies are unsecured that mean it could grab your keystrokes and browser history so my advise to U is using a VPN service.

The only real option now (apart from moving to the US) is to view via a VPN. This is a virtual circuit to a server or workstation in the US. This will allow you to surf directly via a US workstation - so technically you are actually a US surfer. There are no free options that I know unless you know someone in the US who can arrange to connect to.

Here some information about US TV that I found on a VPN website that i'm using now for like 4 months during my stay in The Netherlands.

You have many VPN providers, but the best one is vpnaccounts because the connection with the VPN is very quickly and it give a high rank in security, anonymity and privacy.

Just FYI, a proxy cannot grab "keystrokes". It will, however, have access to any and all data you send across it. As will a VPN.

Sending your data to be proxied by someone else is, by its very definition, insecure and should not be done with any kind of sensitive data at all.

if you are familiar with linux or don't mind tinkering for an hour, you could get a Virtual Private Server and run your own proxy from it

get a US machine from www.lowendbox.com ... <$5/month... the most basic machines should work (eg 128MB RAM)

install something like OpenVPN... alternatively, you could just do port forwarding (don't even need to alter any on the machine... no linux knowledge needed)

The best way is to create your own proxy in the US, and then proxy/vpon into that.

Well for now he is using Unblock Us for the 7 day trial but I will pass the info on. He's not real tech savvy either.

Or should I just tell him to shut off Unblock US when he not using a media site?

3 Months for $10.95 is pretty cheap though: Premium US & Canada. He will only be there for 3-4 Months. Looks like the best option so far.
