Best way to watch a DVD on a comp?

Right now I'm using ffdshow and media player classic, and it's fine, but the problem is at the higher resolutions I run my comp at, everything becomes... boxy and grainy in the video.

What players/codecs/postprocessing methods or guides do you guys have for me?

on my wife's machine, she uses vlc to watch and anydvd and clonedvd to make copys when she wants to back something up for her nephew to use (kid breaks more dvd's then anyone else I know).

I use xine myself. But I dont think that has a windows port.

I don't really know if the picture will be 'better', but here is a free alternative to try:

I *LOVE* this freaking program. Don't know why.

Once the codec is installed on your system, WMP will be able to play the DVD. The VLC Client I linked above has everything you need. Also, the "Ffdshow" package contains the correct codec (I believe.)

I have xine and mplayer both on my ArchLinux install.

I'll have to try those, but usually I can get better quality with windows...

IMHO VLC is the best all round player.

With a good DVD Player, the set resolution of the monitor doesn't really matter, because the player auto sets the resolution required by the DVD. The best player out there is PowerDVD 6.0, IMHO.

it'll play even the most finicky video files

Another vote for PowerDVD, works great.

I use VLC for most of my other media playing needs.

BOTH are great programs.
