I've got a single car, uninsulated, detached garage at my house which I just bought about a year ago. I would like to store tools, bicycles and metal parts, maybe my car occasionally, but I've heard that the trapped humidity will cause things to rust much quicker (I live in WNY, it's very humid in the summer). I did a bit of googling, but I'd like some "live" input as well. I'd like to do this as cheap as possible, doesn't have to look amazing. I'd rather not have deal with anything powered unless I absolutely have to.

From what I've googled thus far, it looks like what I want to do is install soffit vents on the sides and a ridge vent down the middle. It just doesn't seem to me that this would be that effective (it's not that windy during the summer, live in the city so surrounding buildings knock it down even more). What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Install a gable vent. 2 if the garage is big enough to warrant it...or, if you have composition roofing, install one of these:

or these:

You can also get solar gable ventilators. (as well as electrically powered units)

I'll see about the gable vents. Solar powered anything is going to cost way more money than I want to put into it.
