Best way to use two batteries (?)

I have two batteries for my Dell Inspiron 4100. One lasts about 3 hours and the other lasts for about 1.5 hours by themselves. I don't need to use any removeable drives at this time so I can have two batteries working at once. I am just doing basic word processing and document editing tasks.

How should I use these batteries to get the most run time? Should I have them both draining at the same time or use one until it's empty and then swap? Does it make a difference at all?

Hmm.. its better to deep cycle one if you want to maximise battery life. However, you would get better charge times if you used both at the same time. Right now ,what I'm doing is using the hell out of my 2nd battery while only touching my primary when it runs out. Then, when the 2ndary is depleted, I can simply throw it away and order a new one. Right now, its only got 24/34 Whr's left so its almost time for a new one.

I guess I'll just leave them both in tomorrow and see if I get more than 4.5 hours before I have to charge again.

I am currently using two batteries at the same time, it drains both at the same time. I get about 4.5 hours out of them while websurfing with a wireless card.
