Ok, so I just got this awesome stainless steel frying pan from my mom and I want to learn how to use it to its maximum ability.

I use it for eggs and they turned out well, but I had a little trouble cleaning it (roommate burned his eggs for one thing).

How do you all cook eggs? PAM, butter, oil? etc

What else can you do with a stainless steel pan? Veggies? Gimme some ideas

Stainless steel? Not bad if it's got a good, thick sandwhich bottom. Otherwise, they can be very uneven. Otherwise, gimmie a big, heavy cast iron one anyday of the week.

If you think cast iron sucks, you're obviously not much of a cook.

Short of a solid gold pan, cast iron is by far the best all around material.... well, lead wouldn't be bad other than the worry about getting poisoned and stuff.
😕

Actually cast iron is superior for many kinds of cooking. The problem is that it's reactive and isn't good for acidic sauces.

You can't season a SS skillet, so you need to have fat in the pan. One common mistake is to use too high a heat for cooking. If you insist on very high heat, go with the cast iron. The SS pan is very very good (assuming we are talking All-Clad quality) at cooking where you want to deglaze the pan for a sauce. That also helps with clean up as well.

Teflon is superior for things like omelets, however temps used to brown a steak will kill a teflon pan in short order.

Well, I should clarify. The cast iron pan I have sucks... we let it rust and it makes stuff taste bad now..

Oh, and I am a college student.. I suck at cooking 🙂

It won't rust if you season it properly.
