I am trying to save myself from a clean install because I a lazy and don't want to reinstall all of my software. Has anyone had succesful experience upgrading from XP to Win 7 RC? I know clean install is preferred.

I am running older hardware and did a dual boot with the Win 7 beta and was pretty happy.

Hardware is Dell SC400 at 3.0ghz
2gb Mem
Nvidia GeForce 6200

It will not work. As far as i know the RC wont let you upgrade from any earlier versions of the beta, much less Vista, much less XP.

"You?ll need to do a "clean installation." That means you can?t upgrade an existing PC to Windows 7 RC. So if you?re using an existing PC and want to keep the information on it, you?ll need to back it up before you start."

Just backup your important XP files and do a clean install. I have a SC400 also and it's loving Win7. I had to do zero driver installs as everything was recognized immediately. It definitely feels faster than XP and I had no shot at Vista with it.

Unless I'm special, you can upgrade from Vista.
