friend just got the iphone 7.
i was able to get the 13gb photos off his iphone 5 onto the win7 desktop. when i plugged the iphone 7 into the pc, it wouldnt recognize his ip7. wth!
i cant use his icloud to backup his ip5 to the cloud. cause his icloud has only 5gb. unbelievable
is this app the best option left? https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photo-transfer-app-easy-backup/id365152940?mt=8
i was able to install on both of his phones. BUT using his xfinity wifi, the phones dont see each other! holy cow. his business place only have this comcast business router. it's not like the wifi with whatever ssid we want like at home. it only shows ssid of "xfinity"
im going to bring my own router and just connect the 2 phones on without access to the internet. hopefully it should work.
is there a better way?

Download and install the latest itunes. Then use that to backup the old phone and restore to the new one.

One option is to purchase some additional iCloud storage and then turn on iCloud Photos. That way all of his photos are uploaded to iCloud and available on every device.

Except iTunes, actually you may also use a web-based app AirMore, that being said, as long as you install the app on your mobile phone, and then create connection between phone and PC, you can transfer photos wirelessly, but the very premise is that the connection should be under the same WiFi network.

Your only choice is to upload those photos to Google Drive then. Select all the pictures and upload them to Google Drive.

Or delete unnecessary files so you can update your 16GB iPhone to iOS 8 so you can use Google Photos.

You have a copy of the photos on the win7 desktop already so back them up to another drive/folder then give iTunes a try. This way you have nothing to lose.

If these are the only copy of the photos backing them up is probably more important then getting them onto the new phone

Wow, simple apple ecosystem. What an effing joke.

Cant you just copy the folder local to a PC and copy said folder to new phone?

The iCloud 50GB plan is 99 cents per month and can be canceled at any time. You could use it for a month to do the transfer and you would only be out a buck.

BTW, I recently helped someone in a similar situation. They insisted their Windows 10 box wouldn't recognize their new iPhone 7. Turns out they simply didn't push the lightening cable all the way into the phone. Apparently there is a slight resistance built-in before it was fully seated and they were stopping before pushing it all the way in. You might take a look at that.

You can copy them off (as was mentioned in the OP), but Windows by default doesn't have write support to the file system that the iPhone uses (a variant of HFS+ I presume).

That's why I don't buy into the apple family. It's a joke... Apple just wants money that is free for any other device... Hopefully he doesn't want to transfer his/her music library over! :D

Less free storage than iCloud. The extra data on iCloud is pretty affordable.

I was assuming his old phone was not a iphone, and needed a app that had both android and iphone support. If they are both iphones i find it very hard to believe apple doesnt have a app for this.

It's a novel idea to pay actual money for a service!

I'd rather that than adverts.

Well, google / dropbox / etc...etc.. are services where you CAN pay "actual" money for.

I'd rather have a "choice" than be backed up against a wall at every turn. Especially, if you know you are going to rarely use the service.

What if you no longer like the "service" being provided? I also like lot's of options!

Not sure what your post is trying to say given there are already plenty of options...

Just reminding you that those free options can be "paid" for as a premium option as well. Just in case you couldn't figure it out.

Edit: I should mention that when you pay for the service, the advertisements go away and of course you have a lot more options than just the free account.
