Best Way To Transfer Files To New Computer

What do you people do when you need to transfer files from an old computer to a new computer? I've tried temporarily installing the hard drive from my old computer in my new computer but that does not work. The hard drive in my new computer is an SATA drive and the hard drive from my old computer is a normal IDE drive. There's no way to run them both at the same time. I've tried everything and it just doesn't work. So that's out as an option. Another option would be using the Windows XP "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" with a null modem serial cable connected to both of my computers. I've heard that some people use a Direct Cable Connection with a parallel cable, but I have no idea how that works. So what do you people feel is the best way to transfer files to a new hard drive, excluding temporarily installing the old drive in the new computer?

I dont see how you cannot have a SATA and IDE interface hooked up at the same time..

Networking is the best bet but why not byrn run them on CD then transfer, that way you'll also have a disc back-up :)

BlameTheBigBang here's what I have to do with My Asus P4P800 to get all 4 ide & 2 SATA drives working at once.

In my bios in IDE settings I have Compatibility mode & enhanced mode.

When I select Compatibilty I can only use SATA + 1 ide channel (2hd).

When I select enhanced mode I can have 2 ide channnels (4hd) + 2 sata.

See if you can find a setting similar in your bios.

Maybe it's in the manual somewhere?

1. Crossover cable. This is a ethernet cable that you can use directly between computers. $5.

2. CDRW. $20. Everyone should own at least one anyway.

3. Install old HD in new comp. IDE and SATA drives "should" be fine together, unless you got a REALLY picky board.

4. USB transfer cable. Waste of money.
