Best way to trade/sell an engagement ring

I bought an engagement ring for a longtime gf last year, but things didn't work out. I never gave it to her, but we broke up a few months after I bought it.

I've been seeing my current gf for nearly a year now, and would like to propose soon. The problem is, I have this ring and can't give her the same one, for sentimental reasons and my general well-being. I went back to the jeweler, and he said he'll see what he can do, but I'm not optimistic. My question is, what are my avenues for selling or trading this ring?

1.5 CT, Color D, Round Cut, all documents

Thanks

Craigslist or pawn shop.

Honestly though it sounds like you should wait a little longer before proposing, just my opinion, not trying to be a jerk.

Best idea, and probably the most cost concerning. Only problem might be is if she doesn't want a round cut, but you could luck out ... something like a 1/6 chance!

Put it up on eBay for a fair "Buy It Now" price (make sure you know what the net price after fees is by visiting ebcalc) and enable the "Best Offer" feature so potential buyers can send you their offers and establish a line of communication.

I sold lots of high-end stuff on eBay like that. Many times I ended up completing the transaction outside of eBay. I spent a few dollars to put up the eBay listing, used the listing to generate lots of hits/interest in the item, and cut the buyer a discount if they completed the sale without going through eBay.

I've found that Craigslist is a poor avenue for selling jewelry; too many low-ballers. People interested in quality jewelry usually hunt through eBay listings first. It doesn't cost much; even for high value "Buy It Now" listings, the insertion fee is only ~$5. For the amount of traffic that you'll get on eBay, I think that's worth it.

Be prepared to take a hit selling second-hand jewelry (unless you got an amazing deal in the first place).

Well...you're going to lose your @ss on the deal probably. Have you considered keeping the stone and swapping out the setting? A rock is a rock is a rock. It's the setting that makes it unique.

Just have it resize and make sure you say the ex's name when you propose to your current gf?

she wants a different cut. I have round, she wants princess. The setting will also eat my lunch because it's a name brand. "The Rolex of Settings"
