All these tests are free of course, listed in recommended sequence of use:
a) Memtest86+ for ram
Short memtest86+ usage guide for RAM tweaking:
memtest86+ loop 2 times std test #1-8 and then loop test #5, #6, #7 and #8 for 50-100-200 passes to guage how fairly stable these settings (not 100% stable!) are before loading windows for windows stability tests
(the above is quoted from here:
http://i4memory.com/showthread.php?t=327)
b) then after you install Windows, run the French
OCCT! 30 min torture test for best quick indication of overall system stability. Don't waste time on the SuperPi test which you'll read references to, because OCCT! is a much better predictor of success in passing the following, TRUE stability test.
c) then run
Prime95 test for 24 hours with NO ERRORS!!!, a true test of overall system stability.
Instead of the raw Prime95 test, I usually use another one called
Stress Prime 2004, which is the same Mersenne Prime95 test with a helpful GUI added. SP2004 gives you a little better info, such as elapsed time while test is in progress. But if you're discussing it with other people, everybody knows Prime95, nobody's heard of SP2004.
d) use a good temperature monitor program to monitor cpu, chipset & other temperatures during above OCCT! & Prime95 testing. This constitutes your test of your cooling. I happen to like the Taiwanese
ITE Smart Guardian, but there are scads of different free temp monitoring apps to suit every taste.
Additionally, you can use the Canadian
SIW 1.63 to see temps of your hard drives, etc.
SIW pretty much takes up where the discontinued British Everest Home Edition left off, & is more or less similar to it.
e) then the Californian 3D Mark 03, 3D Mark 05 and 3D Mark 06 for video graphics testing. The scores reported by these tests won't mean anything unless you have a benchmark for comparison, so find yourself a good overclockers' forum where people post their scores (even if you're not overclocking, that's where you'll find the info). Compare to postings by people whose rigs are similar to yours.
A few examples of such forums, among many others, are:
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/, and
http://www.ocforums.com/index.php?, and
http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=27, and plenty of others. Also, there may be some forum hosted by MSI.
Are you really on Norfolk Island or is that a joke??? That's pretty isolated!!! Do the Kiwis claim it, or does Oz?
