hey all, dumb question for you.

I'm looking to add some more RAM to my rig, but I forgot what PC I have in here currently. I know it's DDR, but I also know that there's different CAS types and such too. Is there some kind of program I can download or something I can check on the RAM itself? Thanks.

SANDRA is a good start, or you can take the info off of the memory chips and google it.

It's a benchmark/information program, you can download it from SiSoftware for free. Or pop the case open and see if your modules are marked with the info you need, sometimes they'll have a sticker that tells more details.

Memory Module 2 : Corsair CM64SD256-2100 256MB 16x(16Mx8) DDR-SDRAM PC2100U-2533-750 (CL2.5 upto 133MHz) (CL2 upto 100MHz)

ok....so I have two of those. That's 256mb's of corsair DDR-SDRAM PC2100. Is that cas-2 or 1?

Or is this it? From NewEgg:

CORSAIR MEMORY 256MB PC2100 VALUE SELECT. DDR RAM - OEM
32x64 184-Pin, CAS2.5-Unbuffered

"CL" stands for "CAS Latency," so consider CL and CAS to be synonymous. You have two CAS2.5 modules if SiSoft Sandra is reading it correctly. In most cases you can force good-quality memory to run at CAS2.0 if you want. Crucial PC2100 modules are good quality so keep them in mind too, since we're in a price dip right now. Googlegear has the 512Mb Crucial PC2100 modules for $82 or so last I checked.

newegg is listing a stick of what I put up there for $58. Thinking about bumping to a gig at that price. :D

Wait... $58 for 256Mb PC2100? Crucial's PC2100 is even lower at $46 :D Or $82 for 512Mb.
