I'm looking into studying for the CompTIA A+ certification exam, and I figured that a fair amount of members here would be familiar with it. So for those who have experience with A+ certification, what would you say is the best way to study for it? Best textbooks or online program, etc. I'm mainly thinking about being self-taught.

imho... online is great there are many websites that have the on line questionnaire ..books will help i have not done my a+ for many years but still i go to websites and sit practice exams.. easy way to find them is "google" google is your friend..as for book`s sorry i cannot refer u to any one in particular..but if you go to a tafe or collage you may find a book list that they use as syllabus..i am self taught..like many others..it takes time but if you want a job you will find you need to sit accredited testing for the tickets...i am shure others here will have knowledge farr better than mine and considering your status..i am shure they will help..i hope this was of some help to u...

Honestly the Pearson tests and Exam Cram guides I used didn't ask any of the questions on the exam. Pretty much if you are at all familiar with Windows and basic router troubleshooting, and I mean basic, you'll be fine.

Make sure you know what IRQ's are used by your COM ports....lol. I took it back in the 90's before it had an expiration date. I have no idea what is on the test these days.

for relatively cheap, a pluralsight subscription gives you some training videos, but you can also find a lot of that just on youtube.

You don't have to worry about that being on the exam. I had bashed the A+ exam for years but I took the new one last year and was sort of impressed with it. I think it's a great stepping stone before you take any other cert exam and personally believe that anyone trying to get their foot in the door should get. It definitely was not as difficult as the ccna cert that I took this year but it also was not a total cake walk. I enjoyed the changes they made and the simulation type questions. Personally I already had a sub to cbtnuggets and thought it was a pretty good guide. If you plan on going for other certifications I would definitely recommend cbtnuggets. There was also practice exams on there. You can also check out professor messer on youtube.
