Best way to stop 2X SMP clients in WinXP?

Need to do some maintenance on one or two of the crunchers, and I've noticed that on machines with 2 SMP clients when I shut down one the other becomes unstable and I get the dreaded error63 on both after that ...essentially losing both of them.

I know I can add a flag so that it will send a completed WU and not get more but would rather not wait hours (or days) for a current WU to finish.

Anyone have some good practices that work for you without losing a WU?

Not sure of a reliable way in Vista in my experience. I've seen posts from the XP folders though. I believe is was just reboot without shutting down fah?

In linux...no problem at all.

That exactly my experience here too (XP and Vista). Between only using a windows re-start and setting a static IP address on the wireless PC, I haven't lost a work unit in quite some time now.

So in your experience, it's better to do a full shutdown without closing down the client windows?

I've also read on another forum that disconnecting or disabling the internet connections works as well. Anyone ever try that?

Wish I had the time to spend setting up linux on a few of the boxes... might have to break down and commit to trying again. I always seem to run out of patience, tho...

Yeah, I haven't found anything that will consistantly close dual SMP clients, undamaged except a windows re-start or PC shutdown while they are running normally.

(besides, all those other suggestions I've tried are more cumbersom anyway.... Ain't it great.... the easiest way is also the most effective!)
