Can anyone recomend a site, program, course or bittorrent file that I can access.

I want to take my self-taught (library books and websites) HTML/CSS to the next level. I have learned lots of basics but I want to go to the next level without having to take a class (I don't have the flexibility in my schedule right now). I would really like a course like 'framework/structure' where I am being guided through the creation of an inreasingly complex site(s), rather than just learning code and trying to figure out random ways to implement it in a practice page, but am open to anything that will work.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

It might seem kind of obvious to some but a great reference site for all kinds of web languages is:

http://www.w3schools.com/

Of course, depending on the subject you are following you will need more advanced material than what is covered there eventually.

I am not a programmer, so nothing on the topic is obvious to me. I appreciate the link, I will check it out.

Find a project that you are interested and do that. It's much better than just reading a bunch of stuff out of books, My suggestion would be do some work coding with wordpress, but that's just me.

I recommend the book CSS Mastery. I don't know too much CSS, but it has uncovered tidbits that I probably wouldn't find (easily) through google. I usually don't recommend books, but this one is especially good.

I also recommend doing a personal project. It will help improve your skills and creativity. I think that HTML and CSS is most valuable for a creative mind. Without an eye for design, HTML and CSS can still look plain.

I just did a website for myself over the last few days. I started with a template and then modified it; I am surprisingly pleased with the result. My friend asked me to build her a site with a shopping cart for her business, and since I enjoy it, I thought I would try to get better at it.

I understand most of what I read when I 'view source', but I am not too good at creating sites from scratch. I am going to add a Blog to the site as a sub-domain, so I will practice on wordpress like CrazyLazy suggested. I will also check out the book you recommended aceO07.

Thanks.

lynda.com is good for this topic - if you have time to watch the videos.
