Hi everyone, need some advise on how to ship the computer after you install mobo, cpu, ram ect. I normally build locally for family and friends, so hand deliver. but have a on line css clan member who wants a better pc. i have all the componets and waiting for case. so what is the best way to ship and make sure it arrives safe and ready to play. apperciate any tips.

Honestly the best way to ship a PC is in parts and then provide instructions on how to assemble it. It'd be cheaper and a lot less chance for anything to be jarred out of place or destroyed en route.

I guess the other way you can do it is pack it in a big box with a lot of styrofoam like the way LCD monitors are shipped and slap a big "FRAGILE" sticker on it.

Ship it the box the case comes in and insure it. I swear UPS plays football with them. Assemble and test it, then remove the hsf, which you put in bubble wrap, taped to the bottom of (inside) of the case.

Wohha ups plays foot ball but fedex runs over em. I recived a PDA crushed. they sent me a bunch of screwes back and only 10% of em were from the pda. In the same box the sace came in add some bubble wrap.penuts, and then ship it out to em make sure they put the stiker on the side so It lays down rater then standing up. b/c it pases trough a machens and the bar code needs to be ontop. so make sure it lays down and you put or he/she puts the lable on the side of the box so it lays down. put a bunch of fragile stickes and get a sticker saying this way only meaning they can only cary it a certial way. dont ship it ground. b/c its crap. Cheap but mroe days for somthing to happen. oww and Fedex does not issure for more then $500 if you pay more to insure then there stealing your money. B/c if somthing did happen you will only get $500 up to.

That really is the best solution. The mobo can be all installed, and so can the memory. But the deal breaker (literally) is the CPU and cooler assembly - it has a pretty good mass and many of the mounts don't withstand a lot of shock from different directions. HDDs also should be packed separately in those foam inner boxes they ship with.

I remember we had a problem shipping large, porcelain elephants home from Vietnam. No one could come up with a pack that would keep them from breaking. Then one GI got a bright idea. No packaging at all - just a shipping tag on the trunk. It made it just fine. I guess everyone handled it with care. :)

It's hard to ship assembled PCs.

First perhaps rap it in thick foam/plastic then encase it in a hard shell to protect from the outside. Next day air will also benefit it from not having longer opportunities to get damaged.
