Best way to ship a 55lb. 19-inch Viewsonic monitor?

I'm about to unload my trusty old PF790 on eBay but have a small problem - I don't have the packing materials for it, which were lost in a move about three years ago. Now what would be the best way to ship this thing? It's fifty-five pounds and is a behemoth...

Any suggestions besides the usual double-boxing and LOTS of packing peanuts?

Make it local sale only, or get some solid planks of styrofoam to cushion around the monitor.. or if you do use peanut encapsulate them in bags so they don't all shift & let the monitor drop to the bottom of the box and be ruined.

I GUESS I could scream "local pickup only" but that would severely restrict my bids...

packing peanuts are terrible at protecting an item.

go to your local fabric/hobby store and buy some thick foam. Cut the foam to fit around the monitor inside the box.

Make SURE you insure the package when you ship it.

Hire a Mexican bike messenger. Peanuts and bubble wrap won't work, that's why you keep the original packaging for heavy items. The form fitting dense foam and white block foam are the only ways to protect heavy items during shipment.

Ps. You can always use crumpled up newspaper. No guarantee against damages though.

Roughly 20-25 minutes. I'm at school in VA right now but I'm going home in two weeks.

Attempts to ditch the monitor at school have failed...nobody wants to pony up the money for a CRT.

Looks like they're going for $50-70 on Ebay, plus $30 for shipping.

Is it really worth the hassle?

How much are you trying to get for it?

I'd just keep it somewhere, it's a good monitor and a backup display is always nice to have around.

Anywhere from $60-80. The problem is I am leaving the country in two months and won't be back for two years. Hence, I can't really leave it lying around...

I suppose I could give it to my mother.

You could inquire some Viewsonic shop about packing for the monitor. Shipping won't cost too much, as it will be an empty box
