Best Way to setup 2 DVD Burners

I have a Gigabyte 7n400pro board and just purchased 2 Lite-On 411s Dvd Burners for backup and other purposes. I am wondering what would be the best setup for these drives to be hooked to the board.

Current setup:
512 Mb Ram PC2700
AthlonXP 2600+

Primary Raid Channel: 2 40 GB Drives
Secondary RAID Channel: Free

Primary IDE
Master: 80 GB Drive
Slave: Free

Secondary IDE:
Master: 411s
Slave: 411s

It seems to run slow when trying to use both drives at once whether it's burning or reading from the drives simoultaneously. I expect some lag it just seems to be more than usual. Even when just burning using one drive windows Xp gets pretty slow.
Suggestions would be greatly appreciated, if not I will just try and swap them around and see what happens.

I'd have put the main boot drive on primary RAID channel(not sure if you are using SATA one or the GIGARaid..whatever that is ) ..the 2 40s on 2nd RAID ..and each of the 2 DVD burners on the normal 1st and 2nd IDE channels ...
need more ram..
