best way to set up a URL re-direct?

I installed Joomla on my web site and set up a 301 to redirect to the Joomla, but I don't like how /FT (where I installed Joomla) is coming up in the url. I would like to make it so when a person accesses my site it seamlessly redirects them to /FT but keeps the url showing as the root url.

Sorry if I didn't explain this well, I thought it would be simple but I'm having a hell of a time figuring it out.
