don't use western union, far too expensive, i would suggest paypal if they have a paypal account.

when i was back in the uk, i would send my wife $800 a month from my wages, and would send thru paypal, would cost me around $30 to send, with western union, i send $200, and paid more than $30 to send.

there's also a new service i've used called xoom that is cheaper than paypal, but it's limited on who you can send to at the moment

ok, so with paypal, first, my gf signs up for a paypal account, and I send it to her email adress right? So I can send to her country in dollars no problem? she is in korea. And can I send her money through my credit card, or do I have to do it from my bank account?

  • AFAIK Paypal.com does not offer Korean Won only USD, CAD, AUD, EUR, GBP and JPY.
    Paypal HELP
  • An international wire transfer from your bank will take about 2 business days to be received in South Korea and the charge should be $35 - $50 per wire transfer.
  • The quickest, easiest and fastest method is to use Western Union.
For example sending USD $200 from Norman, Oklahoma to South Korea costs $18 fees = $218 not bad
  • You could also send well concealed cash but this would take at least a week and is risky.

If your friend has a USD account in Korea, you should be able to send Paypal or wire transfer and get it there quickly.

hm...so if I do it by paypal, am I able to do it by credit card, and it'll charge my credit card, or do I actually have to have the money in my physical bank account?

I think the receiving account (your friend in Korea) needs a Paypal Premier/Business account to accept cc payments.

Why not try it, see if it works or not?

Does your friend already have a Paypal account??? if they don't it could take a while for verification.

Paypal will either let you do it or it won't.
