Looks like I might have a use for dead tech - several clients have asked to fax me sketches or contracts. Thing is, I only have an AT&T iphone, no landline.

I was hoping google voice would have fax capability, but a quick search says no.

My previous employer used Onebox, which worked really well. They have a basic package for $13/month, but I was hoping to do a little better than that.

Suggestions?

I use Faxzero for the occasional fax. That's send only, so probably not what you want. Also, the free service is limited, and the pay service pricey.

Edit:
for $13 a month you can get close to a basic landline service. That might be something to look into.

I found ringcentral at $10/month, still more than I was hoping for.

I'm actually still just amazed that there isn't a cheap/free skype or google voice option.

I have a pay-as-you-go long distance service through Mobilecaller.com. It's very cheap (I think about 4 cents/minute), the minutes you buy never expire, I can use it for long distance (I do that when I'm home, and therefore have access to my land line), and I can use it to send and receive faxes. My land line only costs me around $5-6/month because I qualify for LifeLine service (limited income). So, it's all very economical. I have pay as you go cell phone too through pagepluscellular, and that's very cheap, but more expensive than the Mobilecaller, so I only use it when away from the house. The cellular minutes don't expire, however I have to buy at least $10 worth of minutes every 120 days to keep the account active. Not a big deal compared to the Verizon I used to have. Pagepluscellular uses Verizon's network, so I have Verizon's great coverage just like I used to and I didn't have to buy a new cell phone because Pageplus supports the cell I was using with Verizon. :)
