Best way to seek out some volunteer work.

Lately I've been contemplating doing some volunteer work once a week. I've done alot of work for the Red Cross in the past, but woul dlike to do something different this time. I've been contemplating seeing if any hospitals here accept volunteers. I was wondering what the best way would be to check into this, should I write a letter regarding this and drop it off there? or should I call them and see if they have anything available?

Also, if anyone here has ever volunteered in a hospital, what was it like? what sort of jobs were you given to do.

Personally, I found volunteering in a soup kitchen the most rewarding Qosis, you get to meet so many different people and you instantly know that you're making a difference, hope this helps 🙂

I was contemplating that actually. I will give a call to the local soup kitchen tonight and see if they have anything available.

Thanks 🙂

You could pan-handle on the street corner and donate the money to charity...😛

The best way to find info on this is to call the hospital where you might want to voulnteer.
Tell them your situation and they could direct you to the people you would need to talk to.
Good Luck!

lol, the pan-handling idea is just great.

I'm going to try and find their number today, and if I can't find it, I'll just call 911...*duck*

The volunteers at my hospital just man the front information desk and direct people in the general direction they need to go, ect.
At least those are the only ones I know of.

Don't forget about the old folks home. They could always use some help there...

I contacted the government run old folks homes recently and they currently need no volunteer help, and I really don't want to contact any private ones as the private ones in my area are far from needing any help.

I found working and the old folks home to be the worst volunteering job I ever had. I don't have much experience with old people and dealing with them was pretty difficult. I ended up doing a lot of volunteering at the VA Hospital. I have been there for a years ... it has been very rewarding. You give back to the people who fought for your country.

I usually worked in the pharmacy where I mailed out peoples prescriptopms. In one day I would make a difference in 600 people's lives.
