i think he wants to back it up, not because he wants to transfer it to a different location, but because he wants to free up space while keeping his data on his hard drive. i want to do the same, but its hard, burning so many CDs. and organizing them.

you can invest in a removable rack. i have those in 1 of my systems and works great for swapping out hard drives. think i paid like $10.

Nero has a Backup the HD option.

It won't be pretty. But it will be CD.

If you have a backup problem, consider backing up data only.

Why backup Windows when you have to reinstall anyway after a crash.

Also, before you back up, clear out the internet cache, temp files, recycle bin, etc... make another partition and put the swap file on it.
This way you don't backup un-needed data.

Invest in the fastest burner you can afford and grab a chair cause there is gonna be alot of burning. well if i did that I would be sitting around for over 14 hours just buring, that doesnt inclue the time it takes to switch cd's and fiqure out what is going to be on the cd

Geez man that's like 70 CD-R's. I don't know about you, but my time is worth more than that :p I'd just buy another damn hard drive!! goddamn

Is there any way to have it queue up a bunch of files and then it just says... insert the next CDR (in Nero)

I have like 20 gigs of Simpsons Episodes that I'd want to put on to as many CDs as can fit but I'd hate to work it all out to where each time I have to move the files over and figure out what fits. Whats that multi session option? Does that work?

hmmm , looks like the removable hd is the best option, but have to see how much it'll cost.

how much data can you burn on a DVD?

4+ gigs? around that.. even without a sale, HD's are ~$1/GB. plus a removable rack at around $10-20 (shop around, i got mine at a local pc store but went to the weakarse fry's in L.A., manhattan beach or something and had them for ~$20) is still cheaper than a dvd-rw + media or firewire hard drive/firewire card..

this is the one i got Link. didnt get it here, but that's the model i got upto udma/100. might have to look around if you need udma/133 support.

I think you better off investing in a DVD burner, prices are falling rapidly. A single-sided DVD disk will hold 4.7gb, 9.4 for double-sided disk.

why backing up the simpsons? they are already overpopular and unless u plan on watching old simpsons episodes its not worth backing up, go for futurama and family guy episodes since fox is stoopid and cancel them

and go for the spare HD, a DVD recorder is slower, costs way more, and expensive media. with a spare HD, if ur other HD fails, u can just plug in that one
