I am getting Arctic silver soon, and wanted to know what is the best way to take off Thermal Material off the CPU core.

Thanks.

most people in past threads seem to agree that rubbing alcohol does a decent job of removing sticky stuff from cpu's.

PCTC typically does nto come off with Rubbing Alcohol:

Nail POlish REmover, Vegetable Oil, Goo Gone, or Butane all seem to work well, then finish it off with some rubbing alcohol to get rid the compound used to get rid of the pad.

Wipe the crap off first with something else. Then use the rubbing alcohol to get the leftover crap.

Is it possible to damage the CPU using nail polish remover then rubbing alcohol? (aside from doing it while it's running :) )

I'm in the same boat... gotta get one of those nasty sticky pads and residue of my cpu and heatsink.

Another Question... I recently purchased a taisol hsf and have heard people comment on "lapping?" them. Is it necessary to get a perfectly straight surface? If so... How do I go about it and using what? Thanx.

Vegetable oil and a paper towel will take off any goo. The first time i did it i was surprised at how quickly it got that stuff off.

Simple.. buy a new CPU.. LOL.. J/K.. nail polish remover is one of the best tho I used WD40 and that worked good.. always finish with Rubbing Alcohol tho as some of the removers don't mix well with thermal compounds..

I accidently put too much Arctic Silver and got some of it on the ceremic of the CPU and near some transistors....is it bad??? Also, will it be okay to clean the ceramic and the transistors with the stuff mentioned?
