Best way to remove thermal compound??

i want to remove some old thermal compound from my p3 700 fcpga so i can put on my new alpha pep66 heatsink. what's the best way to do this? i've heard of using rubbing alcohol before, but i want to make sure that's the right thing to use before i go rubbing on my cpu :)

BTW did you know thermal compound can give you cancer!

Yes, it can give you cancer as much as anything else (maybe a little more). This cancer-inducing agents hype is getting a bit out of hand... Just don't swollow the thing and you will be fine!
