Best way to remove metal heatsink bracket from OEM motherboard?

I've got an HP Pavilion a1606n desktop with an Asus P5LP-LE motherboard. I want to replace the stock heatsink with a Cooler Master Hyper TX2, but the metal bracket that holds the stock HSF in place is stuck to the motherboard with some sort of black adhesive and it won't budge at all.

I was thinking maybe a hair dryer would do it, but I'd have to go nab one from my girlfriend. Would that actually work, or am I SOL?

You may want to use a nozzle at the output side of the hair dyer so that you don't heat up the whole board. An exacto knife may be better if the adhesive has some thickness.

i have actually managed to remove it. you basically have to pry it up carefully with a screw driver or something from the corners, making sure not to completely destroy anything , and maybe use some dental floss or something. its quite hard to remove.

the machine i did it on had an avc heatpipe cooler (the system was a pentium d 840), but i know they use other coolers as well.
