Goo-Gone isn't for wallpaper, it is for peroleum based sticky residue from "Stickers" and the like.
Wallpaper paste is water based, some of it is Wheat paste, while there are some synthetics out there also.
There is a product, I think it's brand name is ZIF Wallpaper Stripper. Directions are on the bottle. Available at most paint and/ or wallpaper stores.
My wife just uses dish detergent and very warm water, spray it down, let it set but do not let it dry. You can periodically check it to see when it comes loose.
Usually, she wets it a couple of times, scrapes off what will come off, then reapplies the soapy water. (If it is very thick, you may need to re-apply and take it off a little at a time)
