Best way to polish stainless steel?

I'm getting ready to install a stainless off-road "X-pipe" on the Mustang next weekend, and while it's sitting here, I'm wondering what's a good way to shine it up?

I suppose it doesn't need to be super shiny, because it will be under the car, but I would still like to clean it up. The car is daily driven,so it will get dirty again...especially in the winter, but I'll be taking it off every July for inspection day, so maybe I can keep it looking decent.

So far, I've wet sanded it a bit with some 300 grit sandpaper, and I'll probably finish it off with some steel wool.

Any ideas?

How is a steel wheel gonna polish it?

Use some fine grit.

And WFT cares if your X-pipe is shiny? It's only gonna last for about a mile after you polish it up anyway, with all the crud that comes up off the road.

I meant wool, steel wool. I fixed it.

As for who cares, I do, and I feel like doing it. Is that all right with you?

🙂

You might try some chemical methods - but it will clean it by corroding the top layer. I used hydrate of sodium to clean knifes (normal steel, not stainless), and guess what - it went out shiny
