Best way to pay for goods overseas?

I've not had to purchase something overseas in quite some time. I want to purchase a rare, scale-model car from a retailer in Germany. They're not good with English, and I am not good at German. They asked me to send a certified check(Cashier's Check I guess). I don't remember how I paid for goods overseas in the past, but I"m wondering would it be okay to send a Personal Check? Would cashier's check be better?

Thanks,
Paul

Don't send personal check overseas, sellers won't like it. Cost them money to cash the checks, so international money order is the way to go, or cash if you want to risk it.

I wonder if your bank could help in just wiring money to them, seem sliek direct transfer would be the safest.

Maybe find someone local who is good in German to help you with an e-mail translation of what was going on.

Wire transfer is good but, for a retailer in Germany, why not credit cards? This is easy and, although there may be a credit card fee (don't know if Germans do this) there will be no transfer fees and very low loss in exchange rates.

The fee for an International bank transfer is about $35. At least from Germany to the USA.

I agree, I have purchased several products from European shops and use my credit card. Exchange rates were fair, and it was very painless for me.
