Scenario:
*1 Desktop and 1 Laptop under same roof and same ISP.
*Laptop has wifi but desktop is wired to the same router (if that makes any diff).
*Desktop runs XP, laptop runs Vista.

What's the best way to network the two so you can easily access each other's folder, listen to music, etc... You can just run the network wizard right? I'm just concerned since they do not run same OS.

Thanks.

Just make sure they use the same workgroup name.

Share folders not entire disks, and make the sharing read-only unless there is a good reason to allow writes.

they're both mine (laptop & desktop) so it really doesn't matter how much control I grant right? (unless it exposes to outside vulnerability)

Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings, http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html

As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is allowed to be shared.
