I use a product made my Canopus called the ADVC-100.
Basically it is a small box the has S-Video, composite video, and audio inputs. It then connects to the PC via Firewire. You can plug in any analogue video source and capture the video within programs like Pinnacle Studio 9 or Adobe Premiere Elements. These programs will recognize the device as a Firewire camcorder.
The quality of the capture is very good but of course dependent on the source that you use.
An AIW card would work too, but I'm extremely pleased with my Canopus device.
HTH.
