I'm having a football Sunday party and wanted to make great footlong hotdogs. I was thinking of beer boiling them, bad idea? What about getting the buns steamed and soft? Anyone know of a place to buy them in CA? Costco? Thanks.

Best Kosher, Hewbrew National, or Nathans are the best brands, IMO.

i don't think the beer will really add much flavor to them. i like to put them in a frying pan with a tiny bit of water on the bottom. i cover it and let the water steam up, cooking the hot dogs. once the water evaporates, i keep them in the pan and fry the outsides slightly. i also use celery salt, because i heard the ball parks use 'em. just sprinkle it on towards the end.

you can stick the buns in the pan (depending on how big the pan is) and put the cover on, towards the end. the trapped heat will warm the buns up.

it's real hard to mess up hot dogs :)

Thanks for the tips, I would have never tried that. You can always depend on OT for random useful info :)

OMG Hebrew Nationals suck (I ate them for a long time as it was all my parents would buy), Nathan's for the absolute win!! They taste sooooo much better. But, lets not let it turn into that other thread again.

Another vote for a hot dog maker, they are awesome.

hebrews are amazing dogs... they are freaking huge.... but very very pricy... 5 bucks for 4 dogs.. but all beef and really good.
