So #1. I could try overclocking - but considering im talking about a laptop that could be damaging.

Is there any software to update, new or upgradeable software, or and technique that can be sued to increase performance of gameplay with out getting new hardware?

Turn off everything that's running at the same time, like hardware/battery monitoring, instant messaging, antivirus, spyware you didn't know was running ;) etc.

That as well as getting the latest drivers for your video card.

All of the above . . . Add more RAM - I know you don't want to "Change" hardware but this is a minimal upgrade that will improve almost any notebook's gaming performance.

Also, do a clean install of your O/S without all the "junk" the manufacturer usually adds to notebooks . . . .

Finally, if you are "stuck" with integrated graphics, there isn't much you can do for 3D gaming (except to buy another notebook). :(
