I've started an online blog/ comic, but I feel that it being hosted on Google's Blogspot doesn't really offer the venue I need to get the comic out there. Since I host the comic images on a public image hosting site (Image shack), I don't know how much traffic I can have before the images quit working.

Friends and family seem to enjoy what I've put together so far, but I really want to reach out.

Any tips for hosting? Cost vs traffic

Any other tips would be appreciated.

You can see my comic at InTechnocolor.Blogspot.com

Image shack lets you use up to 2GB per image per hour during peak times.
Getting your own domain though is way better and not expensive at all.
I use steadfast.net it would cost about $24.95 a year with 100MB of disk space and 4GB of traffic allowed per month.

http://steadfast.net/services/shared.php

I tried the big name providers but they are so big that the personal domain users seem to get forgotten when you need support.

Also consider checking out deviantART.

Decent comic.

Hard on my eyes though, either the font type or size I guess. Would be helpful if you could click on the comic and see it larger.

I'll be sure to fix this over the weekend. Thanks for suggestion.

I agree on the font. Are you using some kind of shadow on it? It has a hazy aliased look. Kind of like it was blown up on an LCD, screenshot, and then shrunk back down.

Seconded on the vector. PNG is fine, but you need to get rid of that pixelization on everything.

Also, you need to work on your art skills. Those stick figures in MS Paint will never cut it.

That's the charm :)

I agree with the above, I like the comic but the font sucks.

So I've taken in what people have been saying here. Thanks for the input.

I've switched from MS Paint to GIMP (gotta keep it legit ;])

I like the idea of just using stick figures with settle emotional cues with simple eyes and mouths.

I'm writing a mini-series (do those exists with comics) right now which I will do a bit more impressive art with. This plot features a grab bag of characters from every day life and a story arc that shows how they all connect. From High School sweet hearts to a bomb maker in the middle east. I estimate I'll be set for release sometime next year depending how much time my newborn daughter takes up!

So If Imageshack allows 2 gb per hour and steadfast only offers 4 gb per month for traffic it looks like I'm sticking with Imageshack for now. At least until I teach myself how to host a website on a dedicated PC from home.
