Ok, so I get these Klipsch ProMedia's a few weeks back. I listen to them once and I pack up and send back my existing speaker set (BA4800's). I just recently picked up the new Philips card and I am very impressed with it...the PM's and this card work well together. So, to get to the point, I have been listening to these for a few weeks now and loving it...but it just wasn't enough. I decided to pick up a second set of 4.1 PM's and make a killer 8.2 setup. I am all ready to dive into this and I have a plan on the best way to hook them up to get the best sound. Let me know if you have a better idea or if the way I am planning is ok....thanks.

Philips Card Outputs:

- Front
- Rear
- Center/Sub

I will connect the front input from the speaker control pod to the Center/Sub output. Next, I will connect the second front input to the Front output. Finally I will use a Y-adapter to combine the remaining two rear inputs from the pod to the rear output of card. The sub on the Promedia's shares with the front channel, so the subs will both be active and getting a full signal, where the four rear speaker sharing the rear output will take any performance loss from splitting the signal. What do you think? Thanks...

why would you want 8 speakers and 2 subs? that's just overkill, you'd be better off getting some NICE home theater speakers with the $500+ you spent on the 2 PMs.

I already had a set of the 4.1 PM's and I asked for a set of the 2.1's for xmas to make a 6.2 setup. The person that I asked for the speakers from said if I wanted to I could get the 4.1's instead. I only paid $249 for the original set, the second set is a present. Sure it's overkill, but that's fine with me.

<sarcasm> Wait a second... Somebody on this forum is doing something "overkill"? Say it isn't so! </sarcasm>

;)

What's wrong with overkill, anyway?

BBY has 2.1s for $150, you sure that $100 is worth the overkill? I wouldnt want to decorate my room with speakers here and there and wires all over the ground.

As far as the price goes, they are free...a gift. As for the wires and speaker placement, if the wires are run correctly and the speakers are mounted in optimal locations, it is not really decoration. I will have the two acting as the center channel in front of me, the two front channel speakers in the front corners of the room with Klipsch wall mounts, the first set of rears in the middle of the room, also wall mounted, and the final set in the back corners of the room..just like a theater is set-up. It will take time to run the wire so it is hidden, but the ends justify the means to me. Also, the 2.1's are underpowered compared to the 4.1's. The 2.1 sats only have 35 watts going to them, the 4.1's have 60 watts. The sub on the 4.1's has two 6.5in drivers with 160 watts power, the 2.1's only have one 6.5" driver amd only 135 watts to the sub. I am looking to keep it as balanced as possible.

Now all we need to do is get you to get another set of the BA4800's and see how they work as a 8.2 setup..hehe. We could compare performance on the "bleeding ears" scale...LOL! ;)

insane3d:

i asked you on the klipsch msg board but you haven't responded yet, so i'll ask here.

you said in a post that with live! you only needed the volume on live at like 25%, but with the philips card you need to set it at 100%. you mean that the klipsch are louder on the live! than they are on the philips? they're more powerful on the sb live?

Sorry man, I missed that post. I guess you could say the Live had a louder output, but if I went any higher than 25% on the Live, the PM's would hiss. On the Philips card I keep it at 100%, but there is no hiss, and I keep my PM's around 1/4 volume, and no higher than 1/2 if I really crank them..any further is not needed. I guess you could say the Live has a louder output signal, but it is not as clean. The Philips needs to be turned up more, but it has no hiss..none at all. This may be something that they improve upon with new drivers, but I don't really consider this a problem. I hope this helps you...

LXi, you're the second person I've seen mention the Klipsch 2.1's @ BB. I'm in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, which is BB's home, and I've yet to see them on BB shelves. Where have you seen them? I've also looked at BB's website, and not seen them. No one in the stores even know what I'm talking about re the 2.1's (no flames on that comment, in the spirit of the season we'll withhold judgement on BB sales <g>).
