Just wondering if you guys know the best way to purchase a used car from out of state? I have already found a very good shipping company and I am now trying to find the best way to pay for it.

The seller has the title in hand and I will be paying cash. I live in Oregon and he lives in California.

Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

First, don't waste your money on an RX8.

Second, you should fly there and drive it back.

The car is still under warranty and seller has send me very detailed pictures of everything. I really dont want to drive it back during the winter since the mountain passes will be very bad plus I dont want to put the miles on it.

You should've bought GT5 Prologue and a G25 wheel for a test drive 1st.

You're going to buy this car sight unseen? Interesting. Everyone's risk level is different, I suppose.

Why are you buying an RX8? Looks? Wankel love? It is pretty well known that those cars are under powered and relatively terrible on gas.

Edit: In case you haven't looked up the stock dyno specs, they are: ~180hp and ~130ftlbs

Looking at pictures online should be more than enough to know the car is ok....

My advice, don't ship it. I've heard too many nightmare stories about cars getting dropped off car carriers or things leaking onto their paint from the car above. Plus it is wicked expensive. I had a car shipping from Oklahoma to NY and it cost me 1200 bucks. The car was a parts car so I paid more to have it shipped than I did for the car. It did not matter to me that it got stuff on it when it was on the carrier because I was only interested in the drive train and few other sundries from it. But it wasn't cheap and the shipping company was very shady. The driver was contracted, he didn't work for them directly and I have no idea what insurance if any there was on the whole rigamarole, not that I cared.
I would say drive it back yourself. If those mountain roads are really that bad, rent a panel truck, chains and a car trailer and trailer it back yourself. It's not worth having the paint destroyed on your new used car or having the jerk with the car carrier drop it or go off the road trying to get it to you. Trying to make a claim with those guys insurance if they have any would be a nightmare.

I'm just making sure the OP is aware that Mazda severely overrated the car. I think at one point they were claiming ~240hp?

If you wanted RX-8 handling, get the S2000 for a faster car

If you wanted to seat more people, get a BMW 330i 5 or 6sp sedan for similar speeds.
