Best Way to go from College LAN to wireless

I live in a college dorm, and I would like to be able to setup a small wireless network for myself and my suitemates. I want to be able to share the college network across the wireless, so that I can get internet access from my laptop. All I've got is a NIC and a D-Link wireless card. We've tried using the Network Bridge on Windows XP, but that has been very unreliable. Is there a better way to do it? Preferrably without buying anything. Does Linux have a better setup for what I want to do that Windows?

thanks.

You would have to buy something, also many colleges will kick you off the net for this, so ask first.

indeed, you can use ICS for the wireless to wireless ad-hoc, but you'd be better off with a router for security, but make sure with the college first (some will even kick you out of the dorm for mulitple offences.
