Remember, this is for my parents and they will have luggage, so I am guessing the AirTran won't be the most conveniant. Do they have flat rate cabs from LGA to midtown? I remember reading that they had flat rate ($45+tip) cabs from JFK to midtown. Thanks.

Taxi is cheaper than private cars.

Shuttles are a pain in the ass and not much cheaper.

Subway--fughetaboutit.

Buses--annoying to get from LGA to destination

ADVICE: take a taxi.

There are shuttle services that'll be a little cheaper, but less convenient than a cab. Flat rate cabs from JFK to the midtown hotels will be $35-$40 plus tolls. Shuttles will be about $15 per person. A single person the shuttles are a better deal than the cabs. For a couple they're probably better off spending the extra $20 or so and taking a cab. Just tell them to make sure they ask for the real flat rate cabs. There are a lot of cabbies who are not part of that program and will rip people off for trips to midtown.

That's why I liked DC. 99% of the cabs I saw (and rode in) charge the same flat rates for mileage/people, and those rates are set by the District's cab commission.

Well yeah, in D.C the cabbies are okay, the real thieves are in congress.

You can setup a limo service.
Anything from a Lincoln Towncar/Continental to a Limo.

Towncar/Continental should be like 40-50 ?

Thanks fellas, I found a couple private car companies and they quote $40-45 including all tolls + tip. Thanks again!

I took the $15 shuttle last time, but if you can afford the cab it's a looooooooot easier.

these are radio cars. they are the same as taxi's, just different cars and flat rates instead of meters.

my father owns a proper limo company... but from LGA to NYC they get $85.00 +20% +tolls.

so, i would suggest a radio car type limo or taxi.

Taxi. Waldorf is on the east side and a good cab driver will have you there in less than 20 minutes. I've gotten from my house (94th and 1st) to LGA in 8 mins, no traffic.
